TeagmháilOpen Food Facts is a collaborative project with contributors from all around the world.
The project was started in 2012 by Stéphane Gigandet, creator of the food blogs portals Recettes de Cuisine (French) and various other collaborative and/or food-related projects, quickly joined by many others.
Since 2014, as Open Food Facts was already growing fast, a NGO supporting the project was created.
Contributors
The contributors to the Open Food Facts project are people that are passionate about food, open data, health, the environment, or one of the many topics the project touches on. They add products to the database and they are also the primary source for improvements and ideas.
The Permanent team
In 2019, Stéphane and Pierre started working on Open Food Facts full time, as the challenges facing Open Food Facts grew exponentially that year, with for instance 1 million additional users added in just one night. Our first sponsor was Santé publique France, the French agency for Public Health, acknowledging our work on Nutri-Score. Since then, the permanent team has grown to around 7 members, to support the community on topics like infrastructure, core software tasks, product management, fundraising, partnerships and community. The volunteers have created their own teams, on various topics ranging from taxonomies to prices.
